A massive wildfire in Southern California is moving through Pacific Palisades with residents forced to evacuate. The neighborhood borders Malibu about 20 miles west of downtown LA.
Actor James Woods posted a video of the wildfires near his house. “Leaving,” he captioned the clip.
Firefighters are battling a blaze that is spreading fast due to the windstorms moving between 80 and 100 mph. People had to abandon their cars and walk just to escape.
The wildfire first sparked around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7. California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency as the fires have burned more than 2,2900 acres, including several homes, and has zero containment as of Tuesday night, according to CalFire.
Amazon and MGM Studios canceled a premiere of Jennifer Lopez’s new film Unstoppable due to the fires and high winds. Lopez and co-stars Jharrel Jerome, Michael Peña, and Don Cheadle were scheduled to appear at the premiere Tuesday night in West Hollywood.
James Woods later updated his followers, “Just letting you know that we were able to evacuate successfully. I do not know at this moment if our home is still standing, but sadly houses on our little street are not.”
