“Dear Rodeo” from Cody Johnson and Reba McEntire is a certified hit. Although it has a deeper meaning about overcoming adversity, it is definitely a love letter to rodeo. Before becoming singers, Cody was a bull rider and Reba was a barrel racer. He took those experiences and wrote the song you hear today. Now, there is a documentary to go with the song.
Take a look at the trailer for “Dear Rodeo”.
Cody Johnson said about the film “When I was a kid, I wanted to be the Lone Ranger,”..”I always had those heroes like Gus McCrae from Lonesome Dove, John Wayne…that’s what I wanted to be when I grow up, because he’s always the good guy. He’s always the larger-than-life guy that walks into a room.” Reba adds “I always thought everyone wanted to be a cowboy or a cowgirl,”...It’s a way of life that’s very romantic.”
Cody also talks about making the switch from the bull to the stage, “I think the bull was just a representation of something that I was looking for, because I knew that it was gonna be tougher than any mountain I’ve ever climbed.”
There is no release date yet for the documentary, but we’ll keep you up to date!
