Jake, an 8-year-old pup from North Carolina, ended up at the Burlington Animal Shelter in January after his owner was found dead, according to a news release from State Farm. He had been locked in a crate alone for several days when he was finally discovered during a welfare check.

Jake was quickly adopted, but he couldn’t seem to find the right fit. His new family lost their home, which resulted in Jake’s return to the shelter. He was taken in and returned by two foster homes due to his inability to get along with their cats.

Shelter employees nicknamed the dog “Jake from State Farm” after the reappearing insurance agent in the well-known commercials. Jake even got his very own red State Farm shirt. All he was missing were some khakis.

After hearing about Jake’s situation, the insurance giant stepped in. Laura Michel, the shelter’s program coordinator, received calls and emails from State Farm agents across America wanting to help take care of Jake. On Tuesday, agents presented the shelter with a grant to help cover the cost of Jake’s care. They also gifted leashes, collars, dishes and other pet supplies to create adoption kits for new pet owners.

However, before the generous donation dropped, Jake from State Farm’s luck had already changed for the better. He was officially adopted into a new family on March 19. Jake’s new owner, Kim Murray, has two other senior dogs in her home for him to run and play with.

State Farm’s donation will be placed into a medical fund to cover pet care that isn’t included in the budget, including X-rays and heartworm treatment.
